Nuff Respect!

Posted on April 15, 2009

We have to give thanks to all the great websites who helped spread the word about all the gear recently added to our web store at discounted prices. Thank you to everyone, including Foreign Family, The W3st, Addic[tee]d, Just Mi Zapas, Worldwide, I Love Your T-shirt, Shirts on Sale, Clothing Wire, and of course, Deadly Dragon Sound. Definitely can't do this without your help. If you look around on some of those links, you might just find a discount code or two...

Posted on April 15, 2009

One of my favorite websites, BMC Reggae Mixes, has just released a brand new mix featuring an impressive selection of chunes with deejay Dillinger alongside some of the most famous names in reggae, in a nice rootsy vibe. Check it out for full track list, streaming, and download.

From the Vaults

Posted on March 11, 2009

Strickly for the 45 collectors, Deadly Dragon Sound have just released four new reissues, including two from the vaults of the legendary King Tubby's archives, and they're official Firehouse reissues. Check 'em all out: Super Black, Michael Prophet, Hugh Griffiths, and Horace Martin. Listen to the snippets and weep...

Long Beach Ragga Muffin Festival

Posted on February 24, 2009

Last Saturday we hit up the annual Long Beach Ragga Muffin Festival with Selector JD from Deadly Dragon Sound in NYC, and Shimpei from Five Star Osaka (Japan). We arrived in time to catch K'Naan, Michael Rose, Julian Marley, and one of my favorite performers, Buju Banton. It was a great experience. Click here to check out a few of the pics. Also, I'd like to send a big shout out to Tracii at Gargamel Music for the tickets.

One Good Thing About Music

Posted on February 6, 2009

February 6th is Bob Marley's birthday, and to celebrate, NY-based DJ Concept has released a Bob Marley mix which you can stream, download, or buy on CD. It includes studio cuts, live versions, and some remixes. So it's rootsy, with a dash of rock & hip-hop.

Between The Cracks

Posted on January 29, 2009

Between The Cracks magazine/blog out of Vancouver just interviewed me about Selector. It's an honor to be featured on their great website. Thanks guys.

The Digital Gravel Water Project

Posted on January 29, 2009

The DG Water Project is quite possibly the most important project we'll ever be involved in. The idea is to raise enough money to purchase a PlayPump for a town in Africa - a means for them to tap clean water in an efficient way. Contributing brands include 3sixteen, Foreign Family, Staple, The Hundreds, Abcnt, Bombin' Mag, Hoodman, and Selector. You can see our tee here and the crewneck sweatshirt here. The text comes from Bob Marley's lyrics for "Could You Be Loved." DG is donating 100% of the proceeds towards the water pump.

Hello, Brooklyn!

Posted on October 15, 2008

The latest addition to the list of stores carrying Selector is DBA Brooklyn, located at 454 Dean St, Brooklyn 11217, so finish your Italian Icee and head over there already. So happy to be available in the County of Kings. Thanks for the blog feature too!

Excuse me, Miss!

Posted on October 15, 2008

Have to give thanks to the lovely ladies of the M.I.S.S. Crew, the first ladies of streetwear, and to The Hotstepper in particular, for featuring our new women's tees on their great blog.

Grand Opening!

Posted on October 15, 2008

Today we're launching a mini-webstore (click "Shop" on the menu above) where we will be offering a limited selection of Selector goods, starting with collaborative items. The shop only accepts paypal (thru which you can pay by credit card too) and we hope to offer some sale items in the future, so stay tuned for that. That said, you're still better off checking out our stock on Digital Gravel and shopping with them, as they're the online retail professionals!

Alton Ellis, Rest In Peace

Posted on October 11, 2008

We have some sad news to share today as it has just been reported that Jamaican vocal legend Alton Ellis passed away today in a London hospital at age 70. He battled cancer for several months. Needless to say, he was a true giant of Jamaican music, known as the Godfather of Rocksteady, and will be sorely missed by many. Rest In Peace.

New tees are out!

Posted on October 10, 2008

The latest tees have finally dropped! As usual they're available for purchase online at Digital Gravel, and fashion blog The W3st was nice enough to feature all the new designs on their site too. Thanks for the kind words! We have some excellent guest designs by artist Damion Silver, and Snippo from Foreign Family, as well as our collaboration with esteemed dancehall production team South Rakkas Crew. This delivery also marks the first time we've produced some tees for the ladies! So that feels great. Big up all the retailers who supported, and thanks to all the amazing customers who've already picked some up too. Can't do this without you!

Shaggy has got to go far

Posted on October 10, 2008

British impressionist and comedian Jon Culshaw does a pretty decent Shaggy impersonation here, prank calling for a cab...only this is in the UK so it's "crank" calling for a "taxi." The lady at the taxi company seems pretty cool - she even knows "Oh Carolina." Taken from BBC 1's The Chris Moyles Show by the sound of tings.

Selector! x Foreign Family x Flip The Script

Posted on October 10, 2008

I should have posted this some time ago, but what can I say, I've been busy! Big shout out to German clothing brand DreamTeam for posting this exciting new project on their blog. It's a sneak peak from the last MAGIC clothing convention in Vegas, of a jacket which represents a collaboration between us, my friends at Foreign Family, and Japanese brand Flip The Script. I have to give credit to FF's MR44 for handling most of the design, and to FTS for doing an excellent job on the production! These should be available mid-December.

Shabba!

We couldn't make it to the Deadly Dragon "Give Thanks" event we sponsored in NYC on Monday November 26, being on the wrong coast and all...but by all accounts we really missed out on an incredible time featuring the announced acts: Downbeat the Ruler - Father Downbeat Tony Screw, Selector Cojie of Mighty Crown, Jing Teng, Chozen Lee, Sadiki, Johnny Osbourne, Teflon and DJ souljah. But everyone knows the best prize is a surprise, and no doubt everyone was elated when the legendary Shabba Ranks showed up for a performance!
